1's vs Otford match report
By Simon Evans
FCC slump to heavy defeat
The 1st XI with only 2 changes to the side that won at home to Southborough last week travelled to Otford 1st XI (14th May).
A complete contrast to last week, with not too much sun and a lot of jumpers out on show.
The plan was to bowl first unfortunately the day didn’t get off to the best starts with the loss of the toss and the 1’s were invited to bat first on an interesting looking wicket with some short boundaries.
The thoughts of the team were soon realised when following a promising start from the openers we were soon 4 wickets down with only 46 on the board. The middle order started to rebuild with Reese Thwaites (22) and Tom Hull (22) 2 of only 3 batsmen to reached double figures, with the latter falling just 2 balls after drinks and Reese just a few overs later all hopes were left with the lower order. Simon Price and Skipper Mark Collier did their best to try and bat the overs for some valuable runs but neither could hold out and were both cleaned up for only 9 apiece.
Farningham were eventually put out of their misery in the 34th over reaching a pitiful score of just 111 all out. Taking to the field in the cold spirits were high as we still had to bowl and when the openers came out swinging in what seemed to be a rush to get things done optimism was high, the bowling was continually mixed up trying to search for the break through it didn’t come until after drinks from Hadleigh Wiles and it proved to be the only one Farningham would take. Otford cruised to 113-1 in the 26th over.
Farningham will be looking to bounce back strong this week at Home to Limpsfield Chart 1st XI
