1's vs Groombridge
By Tom Hull
Back to back
FCC made the trek all the way down to Groombridge with the weather not looking favourable; FCC won the toss and invited Groombridge to bat first.
Starting in light drizzle, it looked like a good decision at drinks Groombridge were restricted to just 56 runs some great bowling spells from Peter Sutton
6 overs going for just 18 runs and Simon Price
better still 9 overs 3 maidens 1 for 13
The second half Groombridge released the shackles with Danny Slade (28) and Brindha Sampath (40) looking to accelerate the they were both victims of another great spell of bowling by Ollie Butler not phased by the attacking batsmen he kept running in and was rewarded with 4 wickets from his 8 overs going for 42 runs well assisted by youngster Matt Ward
7 overs 1 for 27. Groombridge after 40 overs were restricted to just 166/7.
The reply was steady as the weather was much improved as boundaries cam where earlier in the day they would only have picked up 1’s and 2’s more evidence that it was a good toss to win.
Hadleigh Wiles (20) and Reese Thwaites
(34) set a good platform, after a few quick wickets George Hutchins
(43*) and Adam England
(51*) were immovable and showed great intent to score quickly whilst never risking their wickets. Adam finished the game in style with a 6 over midwicket and also bringing up his 50 (Welcome back Adam)
Pts Groombridge - 3; Farningham - 20
