FCC 1st XI win over Otford
By Tom Hull
100+ opening partnership 2 weeks running
On what was probably the hottest day of the year for cricket so far Farningham 1st XI welcomed Otford CC to Horton Way for the return fixture, after a very disappointing loss away from home in the previous match up FCC were looking to avenge that earlier defeat.
Otford won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that suited FCC following last week’s successful run chase of 226/3.
The wicket played well and add in a very fast out field and Farningham's bowling attack was hit all around the park. Otford closed on an impressive 261/6 in their 40 overs.
after the well-earned break FCC openers continued where they left off the previous week against Southborough with a sensational opening stand of 176, Reese Thwaites the first to go for 80, however Hadleigh Wiles continued to take on the Otford attack who had little to offer until tiredness set in and Hadleigh fell for a match winning knock of 130 and the highest score in the division so far this season.
The winning win was sealed with the first ball of the 33rd over. A stunning chase and hitting some good form at the business end of the season.
Hadleigh also sent himself into the lead just 24 runs ahead of his opening partner Reese at the top of the Div 3 for runs scored, 3rd place is now a further 80 runs back
