1's Back on Track

After a disastrous week last week with bat and ball FCC 1st XI took to the field at home looking to prove that the loss away from home was just a blip at the start of the season.

After losing the toss and being invited to bat, FCC started slowly and were 20-1 and 21-2 early on. Hadleigh Wiles(40) and Alfie May (28) steadied the ship briefly before Hadleigh was clean bowled by Vic Sharma (9-2-30-3) for his first wicket of the day.
Alfie soon followed after being caught miraculously on the boundary. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals Tom Hull (25) another to get a start and not making the most top edging through to the keeper. The 1's for the second week running left it to their long tail to try and dig them out of a hole but the final 5 batsmen could only drag us up to a disappointing total of 151 all out in 38.5 overs.

Needing an early break through and not being too disheartened with the gloomy weather over head Farningham took to the field with high energy and it continued through to the end. an early break through from Simon Price (9-1-23-2) and some great work on the field from Tom Francis causing the first of 3 run outs Limpsfield were caught by surprise at 16-2 and when Peter Sutton (9-0-21-2) joined the party with his first wicket of the season the whole team erupted in celebration, a sharp catch from Alfie May taking it behind the sticks from an under edge.
as wickets tumbled around him Richard Hilson(44) dug in and when Kevin Westcott(32) provided some resistance a welcome break through came from a straight drive from Hilson only to be flicked onto the stumps in Hadleigh’s follow through to catch the non-striker well short if his crease. The game was extremely close and was anyone’s for the taking with opener Richard Hilson still at the crease until a lapse in concentration and more good work in the field this time from Mark Collier had him short of his crease.
The final wicket soon came as George took the second of catches on the boundary following the first ball return of Skipper Mark Collier (4.1-0-22-2)
Then energy levels were superb without over stepping the mark and Farningham were relieved to have defended another poor batting performance.

1's next outing is Saturday 28th May away to Groombridge
