A warm sunny afternoon greeted players (youngsters, veterans and the "worn-out" from Saturday) from Farningham's Sunday XI and Ash CC. (However, Graham's mobile weather app was still showing snow showers and a northerly gale!)
FCC, having won the toss, opted to bat on a good wicket. However, they were reduced to 31/2, before "our man at the Beeb" Harry Low took up the gauntlet, ably supported by Tom (The Cannon) Francis with a partnership of 67. The latter making his mark with a top edge for 6. Eventually, Tom was out for 21, although this wasn't supported by his pocket abacus that put him just short of 50! Harry, supported by Harry Soper (making his debut) and later by Daniel carried the score through to 148/5, before Harry, pushing forward, was out 15 short of his ton. A late flurry of runs by Daniel and the Skip in the last 7 overs brought the score to 203/5 with Junior Doc on 36 no and Senior Doc on 26 no. It was crucial that FCC got off to a good start and Spoons and Lofty didn't go awry. With a measly 40 runs off 17 overs, the opps were in a tight squeeze. After the break, Ash increased the rate, but disciplined fielding and bowling from Jacko, Shaffi, Chucker and Daniel and 2 catches and a stumping from Harry L pegged the visitors back to end some 20 runs short. Interviewed after the match, Harry Low modestly admitted "it wasn't just down to pure talent, but...". The 100 percenters go on to Horton Kirby undaunted! A good weekend for the Club with all teams winning.
